The Seabin V5 is a floating surface water skimmer developed by the Seabin Project for passive collection of floating debris, macro- and microplastics, and microfibers in calm water environments. It is designed for installation in marinas, yacht clubs, ports, and harbors where a suitable power supply is available.
The device works by pumping surface water through an internal catch bag, trapping floating debris while returning clean water to the marina. An optional oil-absorbent pad attachment allows simultaneous removal of petroleum-based surface oils and detergents — pollutants common in commercial and recreational marina environments.
Technical specifications:
- Captures microplastics down to 2 mm, including microfibers with the additional filter
- Pumps 25,000 liters of water per hour through a submersible pump (110V or 220V)
- Collects an estimated 3.9 kg of floating debris per day, or approximately 1.4 tonnes per year
- Catch bag capacity: up to 20 kg
- Rises and falls with the tide; no manual adjustment required

The Seabin V5 received multiple design and sustainability awards in 2018, including the European Product Design Award for Design for Society / Environment.
