What Is One4All?
One4All is an open-source portal and toolkit designed to make microplastics data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR). It consists of both an interactive web application (Validator app) and an R package that together enable users to validate, standardize, and share microplastics datasets in structured, analysis-ready formats via multiple cloud services or local deployment.
Developed by researchers and practitioners – including the Moore Institute for Plastic Pollution Research, California State Water Resources Control Board, Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Possibility Lab, and academic partners, the One4All addresses a critical bottleneck in microplastics research: inconsistent dataset structures and lack of standardized reporting. One4All is intentionally domain-agnostic, meaning the same architecture used for microplastics can be adapted to other environmental data streams.
Why One4All Matters
Microplastics research produces diverse datasets characterized by variability in formats, metadata, and reporting conventions. Without harmonized data structures, comparability across studies—and thus synthesis, meta-analysis, and policy-relevant decision support—remains extremely limited. One4All directly tackles this challenge by providing tools that enable data validation and harmonization before reuse or sharing.

The Validator app provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for users to upload tabular datasets (CSV or Excel), validate them against a configurable ruleset, and receive immediate feedback on errors and warnings. Users can:
- Upload raw data and associated metadata

- Manage validation certificates for submission history
